The Providence Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Armenian Genocide Centennial Memorial Dinner will take place on Fri., April 24, at the Omni Providence Hotel. It is hosted by the Armenian Cultural Association of America, Inc.
The emcee for the evening is the Honorable Scott Avedisian, mayor of Warwick, R.I. The program will include local Armenian musical performers, speaker Aram Garabedian, and the presentation of the Genecide Educator of the Year Award.
The evening’s guest speaker is Marian Mesrobian MacCurdy, author of Sacred Justice: The Voices and Legacy of the Armenian Operation Nemesis. MacCurdy, a retired professor and chair of the Department of Writing at Ithaca College, is currently special assistant to the president at Hampshire College, where she also teaches. MacCurdy’s earlier books are Writing and Healing: Toward an Informed Practice and The Mind’s Eye: Image and Memory in Writing about Trauma.
Her grandfather, Aaron Sachaklian, was one of the three leaders of Operation Nemesis; her grandmother was Eliza DerMelkonian Sachaklian, a founding member of the Armenian Relief Society in the United States; and her mother, Arpena Mesrobian, was the author of Like One Family: The Armenians of Syracuse.
The Omni Providence Hotel is located at 1 West Exchange St., Providence, R.I. Cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m., Dinner begins promptly at 7 p.m. Reservations must be made by April 22.
