Bogosian, Tufankjian, and Bohjalian to Speak at Centennial Conference in NY

NEW YORK–Actor and playwright Eric Bogosian, photojournalist Scout Tufankjian, and novelist Chris Bohjalian are among the confirmed speakers at “Responsibility 2015,” the international conference marking the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, to be held on March 13-15, 2015, at New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Bogosian is an author and actor known for his plays Talk Radio and subUrbia, among other shows. He has starred on Broadway in Time Stands Still, and was featured on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He is the author of six plays, including Talk Radio, produced at the New York Shakespeare Festival, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and adapted to film by Oliver Stone, garnering Bogosian the prestigious Berlin Film Festival Silver Bear. He has starred in “Under Siege 2: Dark Territory” and “Wonderland.” He has also been featured in films by Woody Allen, Robert Altman, Taylor Hackford, Atom Egoyan and Agnieszka Holland. His latest book, titled Operation Nemesis, will be published by Little Brown on April 21, 2015.

Tufankjian is a photojournalist based in Brooklyn, N.Y. Her work has been featured in Newsweek, US News & World Report, Le Monde, Newsday, and the New York Times. Her book featuring a selection of the photographs from Obama’s presidential campaign, Yes We Can: Barack Obama’s History-Making Presidential Campaign in December 2008, sold out its initial 55,000 copy run a month before it was released. Tufankjian’s photo of Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama hugging each other, released in Nov. 2012, became the most-liked photo on Facebook and most retweeted Tweet in history.

Bohjalian is the author of 17 books, including ten New York Times bestsellers. His work has been translated into over 25 languages and three times become movies. His books have been chosen as Best Books of the Year by the Washington Post, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Hartford Courant, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews, Bookpage, and Salon. His novel, Midwives, was a number one New York Times bestseller, a selection of Oprah’s Book Club, and a New England Booksellers Association Discovery pick. His novel on the Armenian Genocide, The Sandcastle Girls, is currently being made into a movie.

The “Responsibility 2015” conference is being organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Eastern U.S. Centennial Committee, under the auspices of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of America, Eastern Region.

Evening sessions bringing together policymakers, political leaders, artists, and celebrities known for their activism and humanitarian work will highlight the theme of responsibility to confront past injustices and struggle towards preventing new ones.

Photography and art exhibits with the theme of survival will be held at the same venue for the duration of the conference.

The organizing committee is comprised of the following scholars and activists: Khatchig Mouradian and Hayg Oshagan, co-chairs; George Aghjayan, Kim Hekimian, Antranig Kasbarian, and Henry Theriault.
